Easy Homemade Dumpling Recipe
When my mom and I went to Paris over 2 years ago we went to this little hole in the wall Asian restaurant. There we had a delicious cucumber salad, potato salad and the most amazing dumplings served in soup. They were so good that we often find ourselves reminiscing about them and that’s how this easy homemade dumpling recipe came to be!
The ones we had in Paris were filled with meat and celery and that is what I have tried to duplicate here. As you guys know I eat very little meat but I won’t stray for this recipe. However, if you are vegetarian (and if I wasn’t allergic), I would definitely suggest subbing the meat with chopped shitake mushrooms.
This recipe will be divided into two parts- the dough and the filling. Overall very easy to make and SO delicious! Let’s get started!
INGREDIENTS
DOUGH
Flour (150 grams or 1 1/5 cup)
Water (125 grams or 1/2 cup) Hot but not boiling
Salt (1 teaspoon)
FILLING
Grass Fed Organic Ground Beef (1/2 lb)
Celery (finely grated on box shredder)
Scallions (2-3 pieces finely chopped)
Salt
Pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
DOUGH
- Add salt to flour.
- Boil water and let sit for a few minutes so it is not scalding.
- Add water to flour and start kneading.
- Keep kneading until the dough can form a ball and has good elasticity.
- Cover in saran wrap and leave out for 30 minutes in room temperature or warmer.
6. In the meantime make the filling by combining all ingredients above- ground beef, celery, scallions, salt and pepper. Mix well in a bowl.
7. Once the dough is ready, roll into a log and cut into pieces. Roll out each piece with a rolling pin until you get a very thin dough but without it breaking. (The thinner the tastier).
8. Using a knife, cut out small squares and fill with beef filling.
9. Wet the sides of the dough square with a little water and bring up to the top to close. Make sure there are no open holes.
10. Bring a pot of water to a boil and salt. Add the dumplings in and cook for about 5 minutes after they rise to the top.
Add the dumplings to your favorite soup like this broth and season with some sesame oil, red pepper flakes and liquid aminos!
