Sea Moss and Its Benefits
I’ve been adding sea moss (a type of red algae that also goes by Irish Moss) to my morning matcha for 2 months now and wanted to share with you guys why I started doing this!
First, let’s start with texture and taste. It has a neutral color (basically colorless) and a pretty neutral taste. It kind of reminds me of unflavored gelatin. The texture too reminds me of that as it is in a gel-like form. Given that it doesn’t really have a flavor makes it a good addition to any beverage. I add it to my matcha (as mentioned previously), as well as my smoothies or juices!
Now, why is it and what is so special about it? Sea moss is basically a superfood (and we know how much we love those, see here) and therefore has many many amazing properties. It is said to contain 92 essential minerals that aid in detoxing, immunity, energy, gut health, digestion and thyroid support to name a few. Sea moss has a high fiber content which aids with blood sugar control as well as digestion and can help lower cholesterol.
If you still aren’t convinced, check out this Cleveland Clinic post which goes into more details! The only thing I do disagree with is that they say it has a fishy taste. Maybe it depends on the brand but the one I ingest is flavorless in my opinion. After having done plenty of research I decided to buy from Organics Nature and am very happy with my decision. Their sea moss gel is hand made from wildcrafted sea moss that comes from the waters of St. Lucia in the Caribbean.
