Homemade Healthy Flax Seed Crackers
In a continuing effort to not eat processed or packaged food I decided to make homemade healthy cracker, I mean we do need a snack to go with our black bean dip.
These crackers only have a few ingredients and take only a few minutes to prepare. What could be easier!
You can make these crackers with only flax seed as I did but be warned that once the flax seeds start to bake, they do give off a bit of a fishy smell since they are packed with omega-3. You can also split the serving of flax seed and do half almond flour but I haven’t tried that yet so don’t quote me (will report back once I try that).
Once you add a topping to the crackers though, you really can’t taste or smell anything out of the ordinary in my opinion.
Ingredients
Ground Flax Seeds (1 Cup)
Chia Seeds (2 tablespoons)
Sesame Seeds (optional, 2 tablespoons)
Water (1/2 cup)
Salt (optional, 1 teaspoon)
Seasonings- have fun here. I did half with rosemary and salt and half with paprika and chili
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 350F and line cookie pan with parchment paper.
- Mix together dry ingredients of ground flax seeds, chia seeds, sesame and any seasonings you are using.
- Slowly mix in the water. Mix well.
- Spread the paste-like mixture on the parchment paper evenly with the back of a spoon. Keep spreading until it looks even and thin. This will probably take you the longest out of the whole process.
- Cut through the crackers with a knife prior to baking.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
Let cool, break apart and enjoy!
I recommend not sealing in tupperware but keeping open. Sealing will make them soft. Makes around 50 crackers.
Enjoy!
