Dalgona Coffee and Whipped Matcha Recipes
The Dalgona Coffee has taken over the internet and it honestly doesn’t surprise me given how easy it is and how pleasing it is to look at. It actually also tastes really good, I had a sip. But for someone who can’t have coffee (tension headaches and muscle pains), my question was can I make this with matcha?
Turns out I (and you) can! It does require one extra ingredient though because the reason instant coffee foams this way is due to gluten. Regular coffee or matcha doesn’t have gluten. Below are both recipes for you!
Dalgona Coffee
*This one isn’t too strong or overly sweet, for stronger coffee double the coffee and for sweeter double the sugar. Keep the hot water to coffee ratio equal and you’ll be okay.
Ingredients
Instant Coffee 1 tablespoon
Coconut sugar (or Monkfruit or Cane sugar) 1 teaspoon
Hot water 1 tablespoon
Milk (almond or any other) 3/4 cup
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in a cup and beat with a hand frother if you have one like this one that I use or aggressively with a fork for a few minutes.
- Your coffee should be thick and golden in color. Then pour over any milk with ice (almond is my recommendation).
- Take your pictures, then mix in slowly to enjoy!
Whipped Matcha
Ingredients
Matcha 1 teaspoon
Sugar (Coconut, Monkfruit or Cane) 1 teaspoon
Hot Water (1 tablespoon)
Raw Egg White (1) or Aquafaba (liquid from canned chickpeas) 1/2 cup
Milk (almond or any other) 3/4 cup
Instructions
- Mix hot water with sugar until dissolves well.
- Add in matcha and froth as you normally would. (For first timers, matcha does not dissolve easily. You always need a frother or whisk.
- In a separate cup or bowl, whisk or froth egg white or aquafaba until white and smooth. This can take a few minutes.
- Slowly pour in the matcha mixture and keep beating the egg or aquafaba.
- Pour over your glass of iced milk and enjoy!
